The Society of Fellows was established in 1933 as an alternative to the Ph.D. at Harvard; it used the Prize Fellowships of Trinity College, Cambridge as a model. The Society consists of seven senior members and 25 "Junior Fellows." Eight Junior Fellows are elected each year.
